What a great idea. the problem today nobody wants to give anything away. (including me I am afraid) friends and friends of friends would often want little jobs doing which I obliged as I am in engineering there was always material lying about so was never a problem, but as time has gone on most companies only buy the stock the need for the job so all the little of cuts became gold dust. So when I had to start paying for material I wasn’t so keen to do it for free. eBay as great as it is and I am sure we have taken advantage of the site for good priced items has killed the culture of giving stuff away. Even stuff that would have been skipped years ago is finding its way on to sites like this, as everything know a days has a value

    Hello thehomeengineer ,
Yep, that old health and safety issue. Personally I have no problem with stupid people removing themselves from the gene pool as long as the don't involve or affect others while doing so. Unfortunately they don't seem able to do this.
    Frank S,
We had inorganic rubbish collections for decades and it was great, another "unfortunately" with our forced change social makeup we now have a LOT of people who have zero respect for any culture but their own and certainly not for the existing local one. This led to a departure from the accepted practice of remove item you were interested in, clean for use or use for parts and then dispose of what was not wanted responsibly to 'gangs',(only term I can think of), roaming the streets in trucks who would smash goods on the footpath or berm take what they wanted and move on so that got stopped too.
At least things are no where near as bad as some other countries and I doubt that it will be as there are still a lot of politically incorrect among the local populace

    Hi Jon
Oh No! My man of many disguises has been rumbled. This is me in a bear suit in the middle of the night hunting for engineer’s treasure.
Thank you for sharing I will have to think up other disguises now.

    Great find!

By the way don't think of that as just a simple welding table, It looks like it could easily be a fixture plate for use in a mill vise amongst other uses.
