    I agree is it welding or brazing. I am trying to figure what is causing what appears to be a secondary "flame". The flame at the torch tip look like it is a bit disconnected as it is off to one side.

    Perhaps something to do with taking the photograph? Seems it would be very difficult to get the exposure as good as it is in that photo with that bright flame, yet still the rest of the shot is well exposed.

    I think it's pretty clear that he is brazing or gas welding as he is feeding a filler rod of some sort with his other hand into the work. I suppose for cutting he could work the torch with both hands, using his left hand to steady the torch and work the oxygen lever.

    The tip has a piece attached to the side that preheats/postheats the work depending which way you orient it.
