1942 short film: The Machinist and Toolmaker

A short Vocational Guidance film from 1942, to encourage young people to enter the machining trade. A look back into a very different America. I'm envious of the school machine shop at 8:56; we didn't have anything like that when I was in school.

"If you learn decimals and simple arithmetic in the classroom, if you like to work with your hands, if you like to make things, if you are not afraid of oil, grease, and dirt, if you like machinery, you can become a machinist!" - The Machinist and Toolmaker

Thanks Jon, this was a fun flash back. Enjoyed seeing all the old iron and particularly liked the giant armature cutter/shaper at around 6:46...that was impressive and never seen how that was done till now. Also loved the haircuts. The "Career" verbiage was also from that era of work hard ethic...definitely no OSHA around either. Great find and thanks for sharing it with us.
