"There's a road that lies under Northern skies, toward the land of the midnight sun.
It crosses the crest
of the great Northwest,
and it's known as the Alcan run."
The Alaska Highway connects the contiguous United States to Alaska. Its construction was started in 1942, and it was opened to the public in 1948. Although it's now entirely paved, it was once legendary as a long and challenging route.

This Chevrolet advertisement, from back when commercials were cool, features various 1957 Chevy trucks as champions of the Alcan run, and includes a spoken-word rhyming jingle.
