Unlike a stand alone clamp it transfers the clamp force to the bed, fine on a robust machine.
Oh well at least the long T nuts are still to be used. Great find on the gas struts.

Thanks olderdan, we all get failures sometimes and end up with stuff we made that somewhere down the track can use for something else. I have a box in my shed called the "what was it thinking?" box.
    Cheers

Nice design and love the handle.

A variant of this was by Gack and there is a kit for it available from Hemmingway Kits in the UK.

The main difference is that Gack hinged the moving jaw and the tightening screw forces the top edge downwards onto the workpiece.
Sorry that is not very well described, check out Hemmingway's page for a better description.
Because I use a tooling plate rather than T slots I had to change the jaw mountings into slots.
I did a trial version as a 3D print and while this worked OK it needed side strengthening plates to hold the hinge pins.

In the end I converted it to an all metal version which really grips the workpiece. See my blog waffle link below
