Hi
One thing I have never been able to do is off hand sharpening of lathe tools
so up till now I have always used indexable insert tools and when they get blunt or broken
just replace the insert but they just dont make fine cuts like a HSS tool
I do have one tool that uses HSS bits and thats a Diamond tangiental tool which came with a little jig
to make sharpening simple as it sets all the angles for you automatically
Recently I found Harold Halls web page and have been trying some of his projects with a lot of success
like his tool for sharpeneing the end face of end mills
Today I finished building his advanced grinding rest which was a fun build with turning , milling and dovetail cutting.
I still have to make the accesories for holding round / square tools ready to be sharpened but hopefully I can soon start using HSS tools that I sharpened myself
Here is the grinding rest to Harold Halls design
Regards
Don
