    Another lathe "work truing" tool

    Hi,
this week end , I was turning a new Titanium ring and, in the middle of the work, just after separating the ring from the stock, I had to rechuck my ring in order to dress the cut face.
And suddenly, the light came, I remembered the recent post from Canobi : lathe "work truing" tool and realized that it was exactly what I needed right now.

So I quickly made my simple version of it out of what I happened to have in the scrap box :

A roller-blade ball bearing, a spacer also from the same roller blade, a screw, a piece of square section stock.
OK, the hole is not well centered, but who cares ?

    Here we go !

Of course, I tightened the chuck after truing the workpiece.

Thanks Mr Canobi , useful tool, I should have done that earlier (as always)

    Cristophe,
Thanks for posting, also thanks to Mr. Canobi.
I must also make this wonderful tool. Truing would be much easier and faster than use of dial indicator and rubber hammer.

there truing tools are the kind of things you don't think about needing until you see one many times I have trued parts in my lathe by simply keeping a piece of brass clamped in a QC holder never thought about the simplistic design of using a bearing LOL, the sacrificial brass has worked for years but now I think I'll make one just because
Never try to tell me it can't be done
When I have to paint I use KBS products

Ha ha, forgetting to mention tightnening the chuck after truing is going to hang over my head for quite awhile I imagine. Good job on your tool, so handy for something so simple.
It's not the destination but the journey you take to get there that matters.

It's yet another way to skin a cat and a good one too. Would be faster than looking for a spacer to put behind the work piece in the chuck unless that particular spacer can come out of hiding and mount itself in the chuck and then not forget to remove itself before the chuck starts spinning....

Christophe, I know you work wood as well as metal and wondered if you could use a similar tool to true up a wooden bowl when you've reversed it in the chuck? Obviously you'd need some sort of mount for it in the tool rest but have you ever tried it?
