Arbor for running little chuck in big chuck

I used this arbor to turn down some nuts for my mill a while back but when I made the new 3/4-16 to 5/16-18 arbor I found this in my tool drawer.
Now If I have something chucked up in my little shop I can easily move it to my "big shop" and keep it chucked up in the small chuck.
    Whole lotta chuckin going on!

One other tip with this arbor. The threads are long enough that it can be used as a fixed rod stop.

    Cheers, JR

    jjr2001,

That's a nice adaptation of that little chuck! Is that a Sherline four jaw chuck? I once had a 3" three jaw scroll chuck mounted on a 5C arbor. It was one of the handiest little chucks I ever had.

Hi Dick, actually that 4 jaw has been in the shop for over 40 years. Used it on a little wood lathe. It looks very similar to the sherline 4 jaw chuck but it did not have the mounting holes through the face or the groove for mounting on a work plate. I added them after I bought the Sherline. Just got lucky with the 3/4-16 thread so I only needed to make one adapter for both chucks to be fastened to the rotary table.

    Cheers, JR

    jjr2001,

Most of the chucks available today are quite thick compared to the one you have. Yours has less overhang and I like that.

They are still out there on ebay and I think Sherline still sells the compact type.

Very good. I have a Sherline store (The factory) only 350 miles away. Worth the drive every time.

    jjr2001,

You are very lucky to have the factory so close by. What model lathe do you have?

I have the 4400 lathe which is the long bed. (16").
The mill is the 2000 which has setups that approach the versatility of the Bridgeport but with
the limitation of using it with small parts and cutters only. The spindle taper is MT1.
    Great for the small stuff.

    jjr2001,

Thanks for the information! The 4400 looks like a nice machine. I actually need a mill more than another lathe. I have been doing all my milling in my Micro Mark 7 x 16 mini lathe using a Unimat DB200 vertical head. It is not a good solid arrangement but it works well if I go slow.
