    Solextract's Tools

    Awesome Forum

I'm Greg.. I just graduated this year with a BS in Energy Engineering. I began working for a startup 2 years ago 'Solar Extraction Technologies.' We do a lot of prototype work, so we end up making our own tools for everything.

I can tell there is a large knowledge base here, and i'm looking forward to meeting regular visitors to this forum.

My second most useful tool creation is a Laptop Oscilloscope and Function Generator:

My most useful tool invention is a low-weight, high-strength hobby vise:

    The Maker's Vise

^we are looking to crowdfund the above vise on the 15th of this month September. I'll look for an appropriate category and make a longer post explaining what it does.

Hi Solextract - welcome to HomemadeTools.net

I just had a look at The Maker's Vise on your site; interesting. Are you going to be crowdfunding on Kickstarter?

!! Thank you Jon. And, thanks for checking us out ..

Yes, we are launching our Kickstarter campaign (9/15) to coincide with the Portland Mini-Maker Faire (9/16) & (9/17). This will give our local maker community an opportunity to try out our vise first hand. And, because I think so highly of The Maker's Vise, i'm hoping word-of-mouth will carry us into production.

We just did a video shoot for our campaign video. Here is my boss attempting to take himself seriously long enough to deliver a script:

That style of Screw-less vise is what I use on my milling machine and drill press. The hold-down force on the clamped piece is a real blessing. Good luck with your projects!
