Best comment you've received for your work?

Those of us who've built "stuff" for any length of time undoubtedly have a mental list of memorable feedback we've received over the years.

What's the best comment you've received for your work?

I had a university professor tell me ' I always though mechanics were just grease monkeys but you have to be quite smart to work on motorcycles' He did give us a £50.00 tip after doing service on his bike (biggest tip we ever got)

In my teens, I welded up 20, or so, broken tricycles for a local infants school (freebie), they made me a superb hand-drawn thank you card. Completely unexpected, a good feeling, never forgotten it.

The best "comment" I ever received was when folks walked up to look over my homebuilt airplane and then wanted not just a photo of the plane, but a photo of themselves with the plane. That sort of thing is usually reserved for the warbird crowd; I was just tickled every time.

I don't remember comments particularly well, and I doubt sincerity in some peoples words, especially for gifts. I do remember bringing tears to a handful of peoples eyes with various gifts and paintings I have made.

Only 50? I thought that clock was way cool! That's a really nice piece to have at home, specially when you have tipsy guests try to figure it out.

More than ever, I appreciate handmade gifts, no matter how simple, as it shows the effort that went into making it. Too much "gifts" just come from the click of a button nowadays.

My Brother-in-law was looking over my Astro Van build (home designed and built full chassis, front and rear suspensions and just about anything else I need to build a Pro-Touring style Astro van). He was pretty quiet while I was showing him some of the jigs and fixtures I had to build just to build some of the suspension parts. He looked me in the eye and said "This is some serious stuff you are doing here". "This is stuff you only see in the magazines". I had never really thought about it that way bit I guess he was right. Best compliment I have gotten on the project.
