This Origami Dinghy, built by tatoski on PinoyBoats.org, is an unusual folding dinghy used as a tender for a larger sailboat.

The Origami is made of marine plywood for the frame, plus a heavy duty tarp. It's only 6'2" long, and can carry two people.

The tender weighs 54 pounds completed, and folds up small enough to fit under the berths on the cushion of the builder's sailboat. The transom is strong enough to support a 2hp outboard engine.

Folding tenders offer some advantage over inflatables. Namely, they're easier to deploy, and don't have to be inflated prior to use. Traditionalist builders are still nervous with a folding tarp-hulled boat, and the builder promises: "I'll carry a roll of waterproof ductape just in case."
