yep I'd say it was sped up considerably the power to generate enough inertia alone to create enough kinetic energy to move a mass of that size would trigger seismographs 100 miles away. then instead of looking like those men were running for their lives they really would be

I can't help thinking that when this excavator finishes it's life cycle, it would make an interesting hotel / tourist attraction.

I doubt it not enough extraneous non purposeful useless garbage welded all over the thing.
When it comes to paint, Mining equipment is seldom if ever repainted once it hits the mine.
in coal mines everything winds up black unless they have wash down area where the maintenance and repairs are done.
None of them care what equipment looks like except when trying to milk investors out of more money, then they will hide all of the newest best looking equipment and parade the worst in front of the investors all the while crying a river about how the equipment is old and if they could just get a little more money they would replace it to enable them to reach their targeted quotas.
Other mining operations will haul out all of their best to put on a show in front of lease holders or land owners to try and impress them with their abilities to secure new mine sites. Gold miners have this down to a science.
