    Cat 777 dump truck rebuild

This is an old rebuild but while browsing through my D10 dozer blade pics I happened on them and thought some would enjoy seeing some sledge hammer torch and welder body work
This is how they look when they come in on the trailer

parts get hacked off and new ones made from Hardened plate steel mostly ASTM 514 "T1" and schedule 80 pipe
    Cat 777 dump truck rebuild-2.jpg
ready for sand blasting and paint note the 12 oz beverage can on the bumper

after painting they had to look like brand new or I didn't get paid

Did you get to sign your artwork? Calling it a mere repair is an injustice.

That is one nice rebuild but I have to ask what did the owners do to the dump truck to get it into the condition it was in? I can't imagine that it is easy to do that much damage

The company I contracted for bought used mining equipment at auctions we rebuilt them going through every system on the machines so when they were ready for resale the equipment would be as good as brand new the company even provided warranties almost equal to a factory new warranty. the funny thing was often the equipment would be resold back to the very mining company that sold it at auction. I sometimes traveled 12 to 1500 miles to the mines where our equipment was resold to, to do repairs Mining operations are brutal on equipment they often run 24/7 and all equipment is run flat out wide open the whole time. I've seen 300 ton dump trucks hit head on doing 50 MPH 1 empty the other full it is never a pretty site I once saw 2 Excavators working in the same cut in a choreographed dance so to speak swinging bucket full after bucket full of ore into the shaker when somehow they got their timing off and both buckets each the size of a small house collided snapping off the booms and dropping everything on a 5 million dollar shaker destroying just about everything.
The damage you saw on the little 100 ton dump truck would actually be considered little more than that of a shopping cart hitting your wife's lexis in a parking lota couple of times. I just wish I still had all of those years of pictures I took over the years.
