Greetings from Eastern Canada!
I recently came across your amazing forum and thought I'd share some pics of a 2x72 build that I'm working on. It's a work in progress still but we're slowly gettin there. I'll post more pics as it comes together.

Thanks chaisson. I'm in the design phase for building a 2x72 to start doing some knife making. Could you post some of the details on your design? Size tubing, size motor, where you got pulleys/wheels, etc.? The pictures are a great help, but I couldn't figure out the why behind the two pieces of square tube in the back that it appears you attached the motor to. What's the cotter pin for? Also, the two pillow blocks and shaft; did you thread the tube it looks like the pillow blocks are attached to? Any info helpful. Looks like you have modified a few designs I've been considering. Anything you would do differently after using it for awhile? Thanks in advance
In your second pic the sanding belt can be seen. As fate would have it, yesterday's email brought me info about a Canadian guy that is marketing "Belt Binder" (BigFoot BeltBinder) for making our own sanding belts. I just placed an order so I can't speak from personal experience, but at that site is a review by Steve Good, who puts out instructionals and product reviews for things relating to scroll sawing. He did the math and found that belts can be made for about half of what we pay for pre-made belts. The product is some kind of 'microfiber' material that is used with CA glue to connect the ends of the homemade sanding belt. It doesn't cost much, so I bought some to try it out. Thought you might be interested.

Thanks for your interest. I pretty much built this, like most things I build, by instinct and trial and error. The tube ranges in size from 1.5" up to 3" (mostly 3/16") because that's what I had laying around; I'm sure a solid machine could be built with less. The motor shaft is 5/8" and is only held in place with set screws. The whole motor mount assembly itself was something I found in scrap and repurposed, hence the pins being there to keep the motor from sliding off. I also used this mount so that I could install another motor easily. That's a1/2 horse power on there now which, is fine for hobby stuff but a bigger motor is definitely in the cards. The wheels were from ebay and I'd rather not comment on them because I haven't really used them yet; however, they appear to be very well made. Best of luck with your build!

The Belt Binder inventor signed up yesterday and posted in the Introduce Yourself forum: Make Your Own Sanding Belts - Jig And Video . Here's the inventor's video, and Steve Good's review video:
