Custom Made sheet meal Tool Box Was it worth the time and effort?

Custom Home Made Tool Box.
This box is made from sheet metal .035, 1/2" square tubing for the frame,1/4 " ply veneer, 10 sets of sliders from e-bay, ten drawer handles from home depot, 3/8 rod with 1/4 " steel base's for the handles. riveted the drawers together, welded the tubing together. used some epoxy for the face boards. 3/4x 3/4 angle for top rail.
The question that begs to be asked is how much did it cost compared to store bought ones?:smash:
$130.00. you decide if its a good deal. the box is 12"wx12"hx43"L with 10 drawers. 40 hours labor.

As with a lot of homemade tool builds I've seen, I've found that cost comparisons are moot, specially when the final outcome is something as good-looking as this. Not having your skill level, I'd just settle for a store-bought one. If I had even half your skill, I'd build one myself, cost and time be damned.

Exactly so. For myself, I've always found that, if I enjoyed the build process and continue to take satisfaction from using the final product, I couldn't care less what I spent.

Heck, when building airplanes, cars, motorcycles, etc., you pretty much have to value your time at $0/hr. or you'll drive yourself crazy. If I can recoup my actual expenses when it comes to selling time, I consider that I've done well, especially in consideration of the many intangibles. Anything extra is a bonus.

No question, it's a fantastic chest. Often the store bought ones don't have actual slides and just slot in a hole.

Well sure it is a really nice job but why didn't you make the drawer handles instead of the boring store bought stuff :beer: I mean I'm just sayin!
