    Drum Sanders (videos)

A powered drum sander (or thickness sander) might seem a bit of a luxury when contemplating the prices of newly manufactured units. However, given that the cost of building one yourself will be substantially lower, it's a project well worth considering. See these videos for some ideas:

im a newbie to the site but not woodworking. a drum sander is something ive been wanting for quite afew years. himmed and hawed a few years ago about building one and talked myself out of it,mainly thinkin it was over my expertese. my nephew called me out on it last week." what are you letting stop you? if ya make a mistake, ya just figure out how to do it the right way, just like every other time."
ive got parts for the drum comin in this week. got some people lookin for a treadmill for parts for the feed system. got a friend with a 1 1/2 hp motor to use. picked up some hard maple lumber yesterday for various parts. and off for acouple sheets of plywood tomorrow. ill take pucs and do a build thread soon

    Hi tomsteve,

    Welcome!

Your nephew is right; what's the worst thing that could happen? Sounds like a great project - we'll be looking forward to that build thread!

Don't worry - that never happens. OK, it happens all the time, but there's no point in worrying about it!

Really happy to find these videos so I can make a drum sander. Have a planer but often use scrap wood that have hidden nails so this will make the problem if dinged planer blades a thing of the past.
