No rear driver! Was the one driver controlling both tractor and the trailer wheels?

I cant see the point of having the trailer so long? Why dont they retract the telescopic trailer, and move the sliding rear support backwards? The overall length of the trailer becomes shorter, the blade is still supported at the same distance and its easier to manouver.

There are afew reasons why not to do what you asked.
1 is the shorter the trailer the longer and wider arc of the tail swing while it may be more maneuverable in some places the additional out swing of the end of the blade means it would be easier to strike obstructions.
2 this has to deal with the maximum allowable rear overhang that can be permitted by law to transport.
Another thing that does not apply with the blades is the distribution of load centers but would when hauling the tower tubes. then thye would most probably slide the mounting trunion much further back.
Never try to tell me it can't be done

    Frank,

1 The tail end swing would be "faster" but the arc, or maximum circle diameter of the turn, (in this case) would be almost identical. And I'm pretty sure they could cope with the speed of the arc.
2 Its an OD load. There is no "maximum" allowable rear overhang.

    Cheers Phil

Where do you think? UK? Australia? NZ?
I have seen that Aus and NZ tend to go big on the turbines, as opposed to, say, China, where they have huge farms of small, fast spinning turbines. Any thoughts? Cheers

""2 Its an OD load. There is no "maximum" allowable rear overhang.""
the laws pertaining to permits for OD loads are not the same in every country. they're not even the same in every state here in the USA
We once hauled a cracking tower for a refinery from Tulsa OK to Houston TX the tube was 180 ft long and had an elbow that stuck off to the left side nearly 8 ft
4 axle tractor 3 axle jeep 3+3 rear group + two single axle pin on's making it a 4 + 4 group with articulating steer. In Oklahoma we had 2 civilian forward escorts 1 with high pole in the rear was my service truck serving as rear escort 4 DOT patrols 2 of them on motorcycles when we came to having to negotiate a turn I would park my service truck and steer the rear of the rig. Permits in OK. were atrocious, once we hit TX we lost all Patrol escorts and were on our own until we reached FT.Worth where we had to wait until after Midnight then had half a dozen local PD assisting our passage the same thing happened again a couple more times. Houston was a game show and a video game, kind of a combination of jeopardy let's make a deal and Donkey Kong. The trip routing turned a normal 560 mile trip into 750 miles of will we ever get there. and 5 full days. They cut the 2nd vessel was cut in half to make the trip in 2 loads.
