What are the odds that the escalator starts up and the link breaks right at the moment the man steps on it. Auto starting escalators and moving walkways have been around a long time some still in operation after nearly 100 years very little ever goes this seriously wrong with them.

They'll be needing one of those escalator cleaning machines (cant find the link) after that and something to scrape out the chunky bits...Good Ghastly O'mighty.

"Then I thought about something Henry Tunstall once said. He watched a man walk to the gallows... saw him hang. He said it was ghastly. Well, I've seen men hang, and that's the word - ghastly.....Ghastly according to the Duke.

Escalator brake fails, resulting in pileup.

Brings to mind that old John Denver song - "Thank God I'm a country boy!"

I'll second that. Before retiring my job required me to travel to a lot of places where there were entirely too many people in 1 place. I've seen escalators that were so long they required turn styles to limit the amount of passengers at any one time.

NYC population density is 27k/sq.mi...8.6 million people in ~300 square miles is a bit much for me and your (Clockguy, Frank) responses rings true. This reminds me of a 30+ car pile up I saw on the 405 in LA I witnessed when visiting relatives in Long Beach...everyone doing 70+ bumper to bumper, all lanes having to Get Somewhere in a hurry...a cluster truck waiting to happen. Fast forward to 2001 Alice Springs AU...population ~25k (density 32/sq.mi.) and seeing indigenous people walking bare foot in town...hobbled like they were trying not to touch the sidewalks and street. I went out to the river in the evening and sat across from a gathering and ended up chatting with an elder and when I ask him about it he said it was because they weren't connected to the earth in town. Perhaps in our hurry to get Somewhere fast we are missing some key points by living in our heads instead of With our bodies.
