    Fence for framing square

Here is a fence for a rafter square, made at least 30 years ago.

Also shown, is a model roof, designed for an international competition. The competitors may face disqualification if they have to replace more than one component. I would have been disqualified multiple times! It is in front of the unnecessarily complicated bicycle shed I built, which has 3 gables, 5 walls & 8 roof planes. (And only one right angle in plan)

Pages shown are from a book by Alex Smith, "Steel Square Roofing", published 1947, by Robertson & Mullins, which another chap at college kindly lent me to photocopy. Philip,

You made a beautiful and very functional rafter square. It would be an interesting tool in a smaller scale for use in the shop.

I think the builder of any house with your complicated roof line would appreciate seeing the model before building full scale. I can see why some custom home builders are prefabbing some of the more complicated roof components offsite (e.g., barrel roof dormers and eyebrow dormers) rather than stick-build onsite.

Thanks for the tool posting, Paul

Thank you, Paul. But I did not make the square, only the fence.
