Fish hook storage
Fishing hooks with attached leaders are handy in the field but are a royal pain to store in the tackle box. Without a good storage method Gordian knot tangles bristling with needle-sharp, barbed points can quickly form and wait for the first careless hand to appear.
My solution uses a length of dowel. On each end is attached a rubber laboratory stopper (a champagne cork might work as well). The sharp tips of the hooks are firmly embedded in the stopper as shown here...
A similar stopper at the other end of the dowel has slits cut with a razor blade. The leaders are drawn tightly into these slits which grip them nicely...
The whole package is easy to handle and, more important, safe. No more tangled messes and a single hook can easily be extracted without disturbing the others.
