I've seen this in Panama it is cheaper to ferry your yacht through the canal on one of these than it is to drive it through yourself since you have to have a licensed canal pilot at the helm to traverse the canal

Oh RN AFD 60 (Admiralty Floating Dock) I remember her well, didn't move very far though - just up and down.



They built a submarine lift to hoist the Polaris subs out of the water by winching them on wires, the first time they tried it with an old diesel sub (a third of the size of a Polaris sub) one of the pylons collapsed trapping the sub in the hoist. they discovered the foundation for the pylon had sunk as it wasn't on hard rock as they had thought when piling them.

It looks very different now.
