Front brush/grill guard bumper for 8N tractor

I have been reworking my little 8n ford so while I have it tore down I decided to make a front bumper grill guard
I started off by bending a 3/8 by 4" strip of ASTM 514 (T1) steel to fit the front axle

I finished up with this 2 1 1/2" by 1 1/2" 1020 steel bars welded vertically with 2 1/2 by 3" T1 bars horizontally to make the grill guard
on the underside to the sq bars I drilled 3/4" holes and mounted a pair of tow clevises I am thinking about adding a 2" receiver pocket but will have to wait until the hood and grill are in place

You should have seen the antics that cat and his 2 sisters did on the tractor as I was tearing it down. When I had it all apart with nothing left but the bare engine transmission and rear end. The 3 of them spent a couple days crawling over and sniffing each disembodied part of it. one morning I found all of the steel oil and fuel lines in a pile on the ground under the tractor. I had left them on the table where I had been cleaning them. I'm sure they were only trying to help me put the tractor back together. They cat-scan just about everything I do .

Sorry Frank S, I have just tried to make a joke...noticing a cat (I like them also). Very good idea to protect a nicely painted tractor.
    Best regards

I know but sometimes the cats can be a bother they way one in particular likes to hover right where I am trying to work . I have to shew him away while I am running the lathe or he will try and sit on top of it. He loves the drill press because it throws long curled chips to the floor Once he was batting at an insect on the band saw switch and it turned on since then I catch him batting at the switch once in a while so now I keep it unplugged.
So your cat protector comment has more merit than you can possibly know.

none of the 3 cats should be alive today. The moma cat had her kittens in a storage trailer of mine and we couldn't locate where she had them when they were about 6 to 8 weeks old we found the remains of the mother cat in a field. then about 4 days later our dog was barking and circling something near the back of the trailer by the time we got to her she was herding 4 tiny kittens towards the house and had managed to move them about 100 feet by the time we reached her. I could hold all 4 of them in 1 hand. When they were about 3 months old one of them was stung or bitten by something and died. about a month later another was almost killed by a hawk. its left fore leg was almost de gloved and its chest was ripped open. I sutured the skin back on the best I could then we kept it wrapped now you can not tell it was ever wounded.
