    Fuse Block Terminal Tool?

I've been tearing my hair out over this one for a few days and I do not have any to spare! It finally occurred to me that the denizens of my favorite tool site might very well know the answer.

    The simple version:

I've got an automotive, ATC-style fuse block with a number terminated wires already installed. I need to remove one of those wires and, for the life of me, I can't get the terminal to back out of the fuse block. I've tried to persuade it with a tiny flat-bladed screwdriver, but I can't get the tab(s) to release. Needless to say, I really don't want to destroy either the block or the terminal in the process.

If there's a special tool for this, I haven't been able to locate one. Since the tiny screwdriver didn't work, I'm having a hard time even visualizing what I need here.

Worse comes to worst, I'll just cut the wire and butt splice it together, but I'd rather not if I can avoid it.

    Any ideas?

    Ken

It's been a while, but I think you are on the right track. IIRC the problem with a standard screwdriver is it's tapered so sticking it in the slot doesn't engage the little clip enough to get it to let go. I have a small long flat blade screwdriver that's bent on the end. Just can't remember which way it gets it to let go.one way will make it really grab and the other let go..toward the block or away. Like I said it's been a lot of years since I messed with that, sorry.

Hmm. I've got hollow ground drivers I can try, or maybe just a right-angle pick will work. I'll give both of those a shot.

    Thanks!

Ken, I know this post is 4-5 months old but saw it and wondered if you got your terminal out? I work with connectors and terminals all the time in the dealership. If I had a picture and if it's a gm part I could look it up and give you the tool number and or picture of the tool GM recommends.

    Hi Sean,

    Thanks; much appreciated!

I did eventually succeed in removing the terminal from the fuse block. The key was locating a diagram of an uncrimped terminal, which allowed me to visualize exactly where the little spread clips were located. At that point, I had it out in thirty seconds.

The car is actually completed and running now, though I'm still chasing down a few minor squawks. Can't wait for some track days this spring!
