Hammer Tacker / Razor Knife Hybrid Tool (AKA Tack 'n' Slice)

I do a lot of building paper and rain screen application and had this idea when I was holding my razor knife and tacker in the same hand. I thought it would not only save a bit of time but also look pretty damned cool.

Some say its dangerous due to the rearward facing blade , but my response to that is EVERY tool can be dangerous. I've been using this for years and still have one fully functioning eye.

The build is pretty simple: remove the plastic from the metal razor knife track, stick the track on the side of a stapler with the adhesive of your choosing (I used Scotch Extreme mounting tape). I also added a Velcro stopper to stop the blade from retracting too far and falling out.

Just wanted to add that using a razor knife with a push button auto-lock (Stanley) is recommended due to the flat profile for ease of mounting and also its a lot easier to choke up on the handle and extend the blade with one hand.

Interesting. Saving you from using two hands might actually be a safety improvement.

This reminded me of the Cole-Bar project on Kickstarter. It's essentially a crowbar/hammer combo. I sponsored it a while back; still really curious if it turns out to be useful, or gimmicky, or I if even end up getting one in hand.

It's a very handy product. It can pretty much stick any 2 objects together and has a cure period of 24 hours if I remember correctly. The side of the stapler was irregular so I used layers of the adhesive to fill any voids to maximize contact. So far, it has performed well from +30 to -30 Celsius temps here in Calgary.

Very interesting stuff - and new to me, too! How would you assess its ability to seal a small leak in an automotive heater hose vs. silicone tape?

Specs say max 100F for the tape. I would never use this product as a permanent fix anywhere near hot engine components.
