    Helicopter crashes during rescue exercise - GIF

    Police helicopter spins out of control then crash lands into a river during a rescue exercise.

    Nobody died in this exercise. Even the officer who fell into the river wasn't hit by the blades.

    It looks like the helicopter got caught in its own downdraft, also know as vortex ring state. That's been the cause of most of the Osprey crashes. Had it developed engine trouble it would not have been able to rise from the river.
    The crewman was preparing to rappel down the rope for the rescue. Hard to tell if he jumped, or was thrown off.
