    Gears and Arms's Tools

    Hello Everybody

    Hi guys,

I found you guys after someone from the site commented on my YouTube video of the 2X72 grinder I just finished building. A little about me, I repair surgical instruments for a living, husband and father of 2 and make knives and various other things.

Here is a video of my grinder:

Fantastic! You are a (we call) true Yankee. Here in N.H. we (I) recycle most throwaways. My machines " except" motors are built from throw away weight
lifting equipment. Most of the welding already done, just cut to size. Hope this helps if you decide to build more. Good Luck

That's a great design and tremendous "re-purpose" of materials... truly American ingenuity! There's one thing I'd recommend, and that's to put a protective cover over those motor electric terminals, even if it's just cardboard. There's a lot of current running through them while under power.

That’s a good call. I want to try and enclose the motor anyways to keep at least some of the dust out and maybe keep it alive longer. I honestly didn’t pay any mind to the terminals. That’d be a shocking surprise!

That is a particularly sweet design — from the repurposed materials, to the build itself. The blades you're turning out on it, are rather remarkable as well.

I made another attachment for the 2X72 tonight. It’s for tighter radius’s and also grinding in fullers. It was simple to make, just some 1/4” wall 2x2 tube, 1/2”x2 flat stock, some assorted bolts and a skateboard wheel.
