    Home built wood lathe

Hi Boys. I thought you might like to see my lathe that I spend a lot of my time at. it is the second lathe that I have built I wanted a big heavy lathe that I could build anything I wanted to build big or small It drives through two Toyota crown gear boxes powered with a three HP electric motor, the first thing I built on it was a cradle for my daughter & it has turned a lot since then, see what you think.

    Nice job there Angus.

Should be able to turn a pen or two on it too without much effort

Looks very heavy duty. What do you keep in the repurposed attache case shown on the stand next to the wood lathe?

Hi Paul. The attache case is sitting on the tool rest stand which is swung around to the end of the lathe when needed, the case contains drills & measuring gear just to keep it within reach, & if you are anything like me I tend to put things down & spend to long looking for them, so I have got into the habit of putting them in the case before I go to do other jobs around the workshop,it saves me a lot of time later.

Hi Chirstophe. I just checked out your site, You do some very nice work. I have been asked to build a bass recorder in Huon Pine, It will be my first attempt at musical instruments, If I come close to your work I will be happy.

I would love to have access to steel scrap like that, amazing! What country do you call home?

Lastnquestion, what is the frame that carries the chain above the lathe, another device perhaps?
