    Hydraulic rocker stud puller

Problem: Pulling pressed-in rocker studs from cylinder heads. The usual way to do it is put a spacer block over the stud and tighten a nut down on it until the stud pulls out. But if a stud needs to be replaced it's because the threads are stripped or it's broken off and there are no threads so the usually way doesn't work. To solve this problem I made a hydraulic stud puller utilizing a Porta-Power Pull-back Ram. Now I just need to put a nut on the stud and pull. If the stud is stripped or broken I just weld a nut on it.

    Great tool idea!

    Two questions:

    1) how do you know if the stud are threaded or press fit (to chose the right tool for the job)?

    2) how does this tool grab the nut?

    Thanks!

    1. Two ways to do that: put Vise-Grips on and see if it turns. The other way I have found that is quicker is to hit them with a hammer - the press-in studs can be driven in a bit while the screw-in studs won't move (and they sound different when you hit them).
    2. The bottom of the part that attaches to the ram has a slot that is the size of the stud (smaller than the nut).
