    Yes that is correct, it would be like a ratcheting box wrench...by flipping to the opposite face it loosens or tightens.

    My reason for suggesting Stargate was looking at the control ring around the iris I could see the chevrons in my imagination
    As it turns out this iris has 18 segments while the stargate iris has as near as I can tell 20 segments that was just too uncannily close to being the same plus the size looks too close to being near the same size as the gate iris.
    It would be interesting to see the iris in the gif fully closed if the segment points overlapped I would probably loose what little mind i have left.

    LOL, "Strargate!" was my instant reaction, as well!!

    I just wonder if the cameraman on the lift inside that Stargate knew he was going for a ride?

    Well that leaves out the stargate it seems this iris is nothing more than a throttling flow restrictor.
