Knob for Lathe Spindle Control Lever

The knob for the spindle control lever was missing on my used 12”x37” geared-head lathe when it arrived. So I used some artistic license in designing the 0.75” dia. by 1.55” long replacement knob. It is made from 12L14 steel and internally threaded with 3/8-16 thread (and not M10x1.5 considering this lathe was built in Taiwan in 1987). I used a clamp-type knurling tool for the 21 pitch diamond pattern knurls.

    Thanks Randy.

The old lathe is slowly getting better each week. Also thank you very much for your previous recommendation to buy the BXA-sized QCTP for this 12" swing lathe. The BXA size allows for a wide range of tooling options because it can accommodate the extra tall 3/4" tool holders (250-202-XT) besides the normal BXA 5/8" tall tool holders.

    Hi Paul,

Some more gorgeous machining (including some spectacular knurling)! Your Lathe Spindle Control Lever Knob is the 'Tool of the Week'! Special mention, too, for the similarly well-done Lathe Tailstock Clamping Lever.

You'll be receiving one of our official HomemadeTools.net T-shirts:

If you've already received one of our official HomemadeTools.net T-shirts, we'd be glad to award you a $25 online gift card from GiftRocket. Your choice!

Either way, just let me have (via PM) your details (size, color choice, and mailing address for the shirt or email address for the gift card) and we'll get things processed directly.

    Congrats!

    Ken,

Thank you very much for the recognition. I appreciate the feedback. I am always interested in seeing the variety of tools published in HomemadeTools.net. Lately, I have been publishing a series of tool improvements for my old 12"X37" geared-head lathe and plan to publish more photos for this lathe.

    Thank you!
    Paul R Jones
