    Great idea!
    To ensure a small piece I am machining runs true as possible I use a length of either Square or Rectangular Key Steel or Lathe High Speed Steel (appropriate size for the job) across the face of the lathe chuck between the jaws. Then by hand press the work piece firmly against it, whilst fighting the chuck jaws.
