    Making a scroll saw

    Build video:

In this project I make a scroll saw from scratch. The saw was built using fairly common tools and it has a steel frame which is a bit of an overkill.

I used a motor from an electric lawn mover to power the saw. The motor is very fast and I'm estimating it to be around 3500rpm and I'm guessing it's around 3/4 HP.

I felt that this was a pretty complex build so I added the voice - over. English isn't my native language so this takes quite some time.

I decided to leave all of my mistakes or things that I had to change so you could see my thought process on building the scroll saw.

I don't have any plans for this nor have I used any plans when building it. I basically freestyled and made decisions on fly which is why I had to change so many things.

The saw can use regular scroll saw blade, hacksaw blades, bandsaw blades... I'm planning on making an attachment to hold files so I can use it as a die filer or a filling machine.

I still need to design motor and mechanism covers as the saw dust can get to them.

Great post. Doesn't look too difficult or expensive to replicate. My kind of tool!

Exactly. Once you break it down, it's actually a pretty simple tool to build.

Excellent step-by-step details for building from scratch. I like how you moved on from one idea to the next and now have a great shop tool addition. Thank you for posting this on YouTube and sharing here at Homemade Tools. Looking forward to seeing your next project. Regards, Paul Jones

I have been toying with the idea of making a small version based on a sewing machine.
