Print that out, lacquer onto the knob; you and micrometer carriage stop are calibrated! Sounds tedious, but I've made accurate [but short] verniers exactly same way. I do not know a conversion of column width dimensions to conventional measurements, but someone here does for sure. All I've made only needed to work with each other, so actual size wasn't a requirement.
I bet neither Bill Gates or his minions thought of Excel as a drawing program; I've done scaled drawings for years like that.
