    Miniature generator set

I bought a miniature generator kit from PM Research...

    https://www.pmmodelengines.com/shop/...amo-generator/

and after building it decided it needed to be operated by one of my steam/air engines. The result was this generator set...

The engine is one of Elmer Verburg's designs. It's two cylinders, single acting. This allows both cylinders to be serviced by a single D-valve on the top of the block. In the first picture above you can see the eccentric and pivot arm assembly that drives the valve. The steam chest is covered with a plexiglass cover so the valve motion can be seen. When running on steam this cover is removed and replaced with a brass cover.

    Here's a close-up of the generator...

Although it's not terribly obvious in the photo, the light bulb is glowing brightly.

Plans for building this engine are available here...

Cool!!! This is something I would like to build on a larger scale so that I can produce enough electricity to power the whole house.

A steam engine to power a generator doesn't seem like a good idea. Boilers are hard to build and run safely. They require constant attention while running. A gasoline or diesel fueled generator is a far better solution.

I agree it is safer, but I do not have free gasoline and firewood I have for free

You could always make a gasifier to run a conventional gasoline generator.
Gasifier powered engines have been around for nearly 100 years
there are still a lot of steps that must be taken for safety
