    Miniature Lathe Update

The last post I submitted about the miniature lathe shows just the bed, headstock and tailstock almost completed, since then I have completely finished those parts and have added the gear train from the headstock spindle to the lead screw, the carriage is also completely finished with a 1/8" HSS tool bit installed in the compound slide, I still have the pedestals to make for each end of the lathe which will raise the bed 2" higher, I still have the step pulley drive assembly to make and a wooden base for everything to mount on, the drive motor will be hidden underneath the base, the next post will be a fully functional Lathe with a video.

I have included some photos of the progress so far along with a couple of machining photos.

As always thanks for looking and happy machining

    Doug

Incredibly nice work, Doug - almost a tear in this hardened techie's corner of the eye.
Brilliant to have the tool holder milled so cleanly & slanted at an angle - 29 (or 30) deg?
Thanks for sharing this, I guess the specs will turn up eventually?
My guesstimations 'til then: 8" overall length - 3" swing and 4 " between centers?

    Cheers!

    Thanks For Your Comment DIYSwede
The questions your asking is something I entirely forgot to mention in my post, thank you for asking, the compound is sitting at 30° which is adjustable, the bed is 12" long, the swing is 2.250" and it's 6" between centers, it will not have threading capabilities just turning and facing, the carriage feed rate I set the gears up to is .0032" per revolution of the spindle.

    Thank You

It's hard to say exactly how many hours, but I'll take a guess and say 200, give or take 50

Beautiful workmanship. So is this from a kit or bar stock? At first I thought PM Research but then you mentioned the length.
