Modified larger version of the Gingery lathe

I have been building a gingery lathe off and on for a few years now. I can only get to work on it every now and then. I have significantly upsized the whole design and it is three quarters finished. I am currently working on the change wheel mechanism. I haven't started the tail stock yet but it is operational apart from the tail stock. Haven't really posted anything as I wasn't sure people would be interested. Cheers

Hi I'd be interested.I am starting on a gingery lathe but using an RSJ as the bed for the ways. Am currently looking for a circuit to provide variable speed control to the motor while maintaining torque as I prefer this to the belt step pulley. Would welcome any thoughts pics etc?7
    Cheers

A very good way to have variable speed is to go 3 phase with a Variable Frequency Drive VFD.

    The Multi-Machine.

VFD is the way to go, you can get them for just about any motor, 1~,2~ or 3~. If starting from scratch have you seen this?

For some reason I cannot upload files! This is a very good example of 're-purposing' and has led to using old engine blocks as the base for all sorts of machinery.

That PDF is a huge file; probably got filtered by the forum software during upload. Here's the direct link:

I was thinking going that route to turn the brown stuff. I have a fancy for the large wooden bowls. Maybe one day.
