    Multi Angle Square

On several occasions during my adventuress life of being a Tool Maker I have thought about the combination square and wondered why doesn’t it have more angles built into it than just your normal 45°-90°? although I know those two angles are the most commonly used, though a 30° and a 60° is not too commonly used but it would be nice to have those two angles incorporated into the square head also, there have been on several occasions I thought of making a tool like that so I wouldn’t have to change the square head to the protractor head to get a 30° or 60° angle, although I’m almost certain someone has already built a tool similar to this one or there is one on the market somewhere, I did a little research and found a couple of speed squares that had multiple angles but nothing that used a blade like the combination square.

With all said that’s what got me started with this tool I call the Multi Angle Square, it has a 30°-45°-60° and a 90° angle built into the square head without having to orientate the blade any special way, the blade slides into a slot and locks down just like your ordinary combination square, the angles are orientated around the outer perimeter of the square head and clearly stamped identifying there angles, I also had to make the number stamp holder too,(always something) there is also a level incorporated into the base of the square head.

The Square Head is machined from a solid piece of C-40 Cast Iron, the locking bolt was made from a 1/4”-28 grade 5 bolt, the lock nut was machined from 1018 steel, the square utilizes a standard 12” or longer blade, all angles on the head were setup and located from the bottom of the blades slot and ground to their final angles using precision angle plates, I have included multiple photos of the machining and grinding processes along with a video demonstrating the use of the Square.

As Always Thanks for Looking and Happy Machining

    Thats fantastic Ross!
Does the "window" on the sliding ruler section reference to anything? Or enable you to "read" a value?
What paint did you use on the inside of the "handle"

It also does 15º, the 30/45 vertex gives you that as well. Very nice tool, VERY nice.

The window you're refering to is just to reduce a little weight and cosmetic, other than that no functionality, the paint I used was Rustoleum Hammered Black

    Thank You
