    Tuomas's Tools

    My pipe, rod & tubing vise

    Made a simple vise for clamping round and square objects.

    5 and 8mm steel plates.
    M12 threaded rod, long and regular M12 nuts. Two 40mm long M12 bolts.
    M8 nuts and threaded rod.
    Alumine pipe 8mm ( inner diameter) x 8mm (lenght) pieces with 2mm wall.
    Long M6 bolt and nylock nut for handle.

    This project will continue with the soft jaws and tilting stand builds.

    Tuomas, thank you for your excellent videos. In 3.jpg, what does the yellow tube to the drill press head convey? I assume coolant/cutting oil, but I've not seen the setup before!

    Yep. Its for coolant. It works with cutters, coolant comes though the chuck and goes inside the cutter. It has a spring loaded valve, coolant starts to flow when cutter is pressed against the workpiece. Drill is evolution evo mag 2"

    Thank you, Tuomas. A supplementary question - in the case of a "usual" drill bit, will the coolant flow through the chuck, then to the outside of the tool? Or, does the tool have to be a "hollow bit" (if that's the term) for the coolant feature to work?

    No. There's an support for cutters. Coolant flows through it. If used twistdrills, there's no hole in the adapter, so coolant doesn't come trough.I have used coolant directly from the hose with twistdrills, if necessary. Usually only when drilling austenitic materials.
