how? how does this work? - is it a diamond burnish? incredibly fine cut?

Diamond turning is a single-point turning technique that uses a diamond cutting tool to make extremely fine cuts. The surface roughness of the finished part is usually sub-micrometer, and can approach 3-4 nanometers with certain materials.

You can also do some pretty crazy things with it.
