Portrait of a woman made from 13,000 dice - GIF and photo

Portrait of a woman made from 13,000 dice. I've seen this type of composition before (like a giant photo made from many small photos), but this guy has done quite a bit with just 6 die side options. A great example of art that will appeal to technically-minded people.

Quite stunning actually. He must have used a computer to map out the grey scale pixels gradients....can't imagine doing something of that quantity and magnitude by jigsaw puzzle methods.

Actually our eyes are more sensitive to out of place things in our vision than you might think. Where is Waldo is a good example and the old Highlight magazine puzzles for kids. We tend to notice when arcs and curves are not regular or interrupted by non tangental lines, and when lines and shapes "don't feel right". Escher is a good example of those...beautiful artwork but wrong to our senses...Dali is another one.

The egg shape is another complex shape, difficult to draw by hand, and just wont feel right until the shape falls into place through our eyes and that core knowing what that shape is supposed to look like. Kind of like Marv's Cone Eggs in another post...just doesn't feel right but the shape was quite organic in a sacred geometry way, with a Purpose.

Very similar to old school half-tone process used to print photographs in news papers.
