I needed to re-think Frank S's suggestion too. It makes perfect sense though; you cut the guide pipe at the top, as you gradually drive in the grounding rod.

They make a special bit for hammer drills just for driving ground rods. Easiest way to drive a rod in the ground is to have someone else do it. Lol. I would go by an electrial shop and ask to rent there hammer drill and their ground rod driver. I can't see them wanting that much to do that. Or find a good electrician and ask for some help on that. Also get some water to pore arround the hole as you drive it in. The water has a hydraulic effect on the rod and helps to drive it in the ground it actually pulls the rod down as you drive it in. No joke.
