4lb, it seems to be about right for me, cant go for too long with them but they move hot metal about nicely!
I really like your axe mod, this just goes to show that often a cheap tool can be made much better with a little effort
Glad you can take this kindly, there’s so much to learn
I like the fact that you took the extra amount of effort to swedge a throat into the hammer head and the ball ends of your hammers by moving ther weight farther from the center this should make for a better balance. By cutting the straight and cross peen ends with the grinder you probably ended up with about a 3 1/2lb hammer making them be that much heavier on the main business side giving them that much better balance as well.
HEY MATE, Bloody good job ,very impressed. I love your home made fuller idea. Thanks a million AL
Gloves are your friends. Don’t be afraid to use them!
Great video on the hammer reforging. I like the thought of swaging to add a bit of length. I'll be trying that method soon. I've done similar but it's great to see others process so I can learn something new.
The only thing gloves are good for is to help prevent you from getting burned when handling red hot things or to keep your hands from freezing or to prevent contaminating a wound during surgery and to prevent the absorbson of harsh chemicals or getting electrocuted the rest of the time they are in the way.
but that is just my opinion.
