Picket twisting. While the girl's braided hair is a nice visual match for the twisted metal, I wonder if that braid used to be 6" longer.

Looks like a place of employment. I'm surprised that she is allowed to have her hair like that around rotating machinery. Unless its her own shop?

We had a girl over at the local university a few years back that got her hair caught in a metal lathe and it killed her.

When I here of events like this my first thoughts are the instructor failed to do their job in the class room prior to them going to the shop . Then again the instructor failed in their pre-operation instructions.Of course not all blame can be placed on the instructor the student is equally to blame for not paying attention in class, and since basic common sense and personal safety practices are not part of home family unit upbringing anymore thanks largely to both parents thinking they must bring in a paycheck so they can buy all of the latest junk they really don't need or to live in that overpriced brick sided wood shack that they will never get paid off before they decide to move into an even larger more elaborate shack where the insurance alone will cost 1 of them a quarter of a year's salary. And lastly the blame is shared with the student's peers for not calling out obvious safety infractions.
Everything leads to 1 thing the tragic lesson that machinery can be dangerous and not a single machine will ever go out of its way to protect the user until Sir Isaac Asimov's 3 laws of robotics are self induced by all machines. A lesson which far too many never get the benefit of being able to learn not to do that again.

I remember the Yale lathe accident from 2011. There was a fairly public kerfuffle between OSHA and Yale over who was to blame. OSHA's main position was that a required guard was not in place. Here's the 2-page letter to Yale from OSHA: https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/h...sha_letter.pdf

With long hair, you're never really safe in a shop. A braid is a little bit better than a pony tail or hanging loose, but she should tuck the braid into the back of her shirt so it isn't swinging around looking for something around which to wrap.
