Sawing Small Pieces of Round Stock

When a piece of round stock is too short, it will not be able to bridge the gap in the vise of my horizontal/vertical bandsaw. A common technique is to put a bar under it. That works fine unless the bar is wider than the stock.

A simple trick solves that problem.

It appears you have made a "quick-adjustible" threaded rod for your horizontal saw vise. Please give a few more details about it!

The threaded rod has flats on two sides axially. The hole in the jaw matches it. When one of the flats faces up, the rod freely slides in and out. When rotated less than 180 degrees, it is advanced with the threads.

    rgsparber,

That is a good idea for a quick-set threaded stop.

    Rick,

That was a rather bland explanation on how to cut short pieces. How about more drama next time? Thanks for the tip.
