I work in an industry where we buy a fair amount of thru hole PCB product. This is due to the performance and cost of the thru hole components.

Selective soldering is neat to see. It is soldering on the underside of the PCB. The flow of solder is on a nozzle and the PCB is moved around to line up with the solder flow.

Huh - I work in commercial/Industrial LED and drivers (Acuity Brands/EldoLED) - we've only ever done SMT.

All I can say that I can't stand Lead Free soldering.
At my work place we have 3 waves , 2 are regular lead and one is lead free. What a pita to set up. It solders totally differently. Lead is far more forgiving on running different thickness and thermal mass of the board then lead free.

Side note: Foam Fluxer is before my time here but i was told that it was a POS.

Also Thruehole components are now more expensive then SMT components. And now apperanlty you can't buy some of the "regular" SMT size components because the industry is going miniaturization and smaller components are now in. That means that my work place will have a hell of a time running 13 year old SMT machines.

I bring my own leaded solder if I'm prototyping anything at work - lead-free does suck.
