Sensitive Tap Adapter
Here is a quick little project that saves small taps and that piece that you just spent two hours making. Just two pieces of brass, a piece of drill rod and two set screws. There is a divit in the brass rod that is for the set screw on the brass knob.
Chuck the drill rod in the drill press that just drilled the hole, install the small tap in the brass rod and use finger pressure to run the tap. The drill rod provides a shaft for the brass rod to rotate on. The drill press is not turned on when using this tool. The drill press becomes a tapping stand. Better than using that large tapping handle and you can be sure it is lined up with the drilled hole if your work was secured to the drill press table.
Cheers, JR
