A solution in search of a problem. Like so many of the drugs seen on TV.

Shovel foot step attachment. neilbourjaily observes similarity to TV crop of prescription drugs, yup. Marketing is all about telling you what will improve, IF...
And those always have same phrase "tell your doctor". If I had a doctor he better freakin better KNOW about it.
Probably why I don't have a doctor, or a third step on my shovels. Also haven't the well aerated sandy loam. I'll invite him test our dense dark clay; a tough woe to hoe. But you could grow bowling balls in it.

Occurred to me, on Jon's posting of ranald's digger. Some of the penetration into soil with step attachment is due added weight of step, a little more to get moving - a lot more once it is. The step also is a more positive fulcrum when he extracts and pitches the shovel load. All in all, insignificant with a round nose spade.
ranalds beats that for busting roots - more pressure & minimal surface area.

    Most of world: Gimmicky.
Coloradans: OMG I'll finally be able to dig a hole in the ground!

This one caught my eye after seeing ranald's clever digger step modification:

One thing I noted was the flex in the blade of that spade. If I was in a habit of needing to toss the dirt straight back in the trench I was building. This thing might have a use in the sandy loam that I have for breaking Just like another digging tool posted the other day that you twist on a handlebar to toss the soil. I can't seem to locate that link just now.
