Interesting process, thanks for sharing. I'm interested in the belt sander as I've never seen one like that. Did you make of modify it?
One things for sure this guy is no novice when it making an assessment of damage then creating a solution for repair.

Well commercially there is Dynabrade, and another common to moldmakers, can't recall name. Anyway, I'm betting skateboard bearings and a crowned poly wheel could be driven by right angle grinder, just a scaled down belt sander. The belts come short as 12'' or so and narrow, 3/8'' to 1/2'' wide, not just abrasive, Scotchbright and felt too.
I just finished taking this dent out of a Titanium motorcycle exhaust.
