Small assembling hammer
Made a small hammer for assembling small and fragile parts.
Attachment 13826
Its machined from scrap pieces.
Ends are made from alumine and nylon.
Parts are connected with threads wich are locked with ugly bolts. :D
Attachment 13827
Not neat, but works.

That should work way better than the one I've seen with piston heads. Yours would be easy to swing, the pistons heads are heavy. Nice work.

I have some cheap replaceable head hammers. You know, the kind with a yellow face, and a black face? The hammer you made looks a lot nicer than they do. I have another homemade hammer that is reminiscent of the hammer you made. The hammer I have just has a simple head on it though. It is my go to hammer for striking center punches. I just like it for that. But I didn't make that hammer. I can't remember where I got it from. I might have picked it up in a box lot of junk, or got it from my grandfather's garage?
It has a round knurled handle that necks down to the round shaft, with a thread the head goes on. It doesn't have that stop shoulder like yours does though. It'd be better if it did. It has a simple cross peen riveting head. A real basic shop project look to it. Your hammer is much more refined.

Now after i have used it some time, i think it would have been nicer to hold with wooden handle. Its good to hold with gloves , but i like to work without.
Little too rough surface.. also handle should have been made with bigger diameter. Well... everything can be improved. My small hammer is too small.

Hola Tuomas, muy buen maquinado de ese martillo, lo mejor, cabezas reemplazables..hasta pronto.

I dipped the handle of my metal handled hammer in Plasti-Dip. But Plasti-Dip breaks down somewhat in contact with oil, and solvents, so it is not ideal. I am thinking about maybe trying some silicone caulk as plastic handle material in the future. See how that works out for me.

Tuomas, I personally like your hammer. I have a tiny ball peen hammer that came with my original Proto mechanic set. I don't use it as much as my medium ball peen, but if it had faces like yours did I might have used it more. I like my Proto ball pens for the wooden handles. I think the oblong cross section helps intuitively orient the head to strike and the wood doesn't transfer the shock into my hand.
I don't know what you are trying to assemble with it but it would be interesting to see what a good wooden handle would do to improve it. I've got a couple of high $$ SnapOn and Mac dead blow hammers with composite and while they worked good the composite is breaking down and falling apart. Meanwhile my 40yr old Proto wooden handles are still rockin'.
