Lucky you found an un-hardened adapter.

Those you can buy on ebay for some$ are very frequently un/under hardened, a good one costs at least 15$ then at 5$ you have great chances to buy a soft one. ;-)

Would it not have been easier to use an inexpensive female MT2 holder with a parallel shank and hold that in the spindexer? And there's nothing wrong about being an Aussie!
